The good news? Many common delays can be avoided with a little preparation. Whether you're just getting started or you're ready to send in your documents, here are a few ways to keep your evaluation moving forward on schedule.

Submit the Right Documents the First Time

One of the most effective ways to stay on track is by sending the correct documents from the start. ECE’s documentation requirements vary by country, so it’s important to carefully review the specific guidelines for where you completed your education.

Make sure all your materials are complete, signed and sealed (when required), and properly formatted. Some documents must be sent directly by your institution, so confirm that they’re submitting them on your behalf through the appropriate channel. ECE offers extensive information on Document Requirements. If your documents are not in English, you may need to include an English translation. Submitting both the original and translated versions at the same time can prevent delays due to missing or incorrect translations.

Make Sure Your Personal Information Matches

Even small differences in personal information—like an extra initial or different date format—can lead to confusion. Before submitting your application, check that your name, date of birth, and other personal details match exactly across all of your documents. If there are any discrepancies, include an official document to clarify the change, such as a marriage certificate, passport identification page, or court-issued name change record.

If you notice an issue after submitting your application, contact ECE right away. Resolving differences early helps prevent follow-up requests and keeps your evaluation on schedule.

Plan Ahead for Peak Processing Times

Credential evaluations are in higher demand during certain times of the year, especially in the summer and early fall when many people are preparing for school. These peak seasons may mean slightly longer processing times.

To avoid last-minute stress, submit your application and documents well in advance of any deadlines. It’s also helpful to check your application status regularly through your ECE® online account. Staying informed allows you to quickly respond if additional information is needed. If you have a very specific university, employer, or immigration deadline, ECE offers RUSH service.

Stay on Track with Confidence

When it comes to credential evaluations, a smooth experience often starts with careful planning. By double-checking your documents, ensuring consistency in your personal details, and preparing ahead of peak seasons, you can avoid the most common causes of delay.
